Last minute entry

These are dummy mini cakes which I submitted for a contest organised by the Malaysian Cake Decorator's forum last month.

I was planning to do some research on the design but that did not happen as I was busy with work and cakes. I nearly gave up the idea of submitting this project.

But as the closing date drew closer, I was getting restless thinking about not being able to take part in the contest. Somehow, just few hours before the closing time, I managed to put something together with leftover fondant and here is how it turned out.

I did not win anything but have the satisfaction of entering my first cake contest!

MCDC's 1st anniversary

Last Saturday, the Malaysian Cake Decorator's Club celebrated it's 1st anniversary. It was an event all members had been waiting for anxiously.

There was a huge turnout. There were lots of activities and, of course, plenty of food. The main hightlight was the prize giving ceremony for the Miniature Wedding Cake Decorating contest. I must say all entries submitted were very beautiful and creative. There were three main prize winners and seven consolation prizes.

Here are some of the winning entries. The castle cake won first prize. All creations you see here are copyrights of the respective winners.

These winners were not able to be present during the prize giving ceremony:

The other attraction was the garage sale. I went early so that I can get my hands on some of the goodies but my early was not early enough. There were others who beat me to it. Nevertheless, I managed to get my hands on some magazines and cake tins. :)

All in all, it was a good event. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the founder, Joanne Fam, and the moderators, Najat, Ambika and Ina for making this a memorable event.

Loads of fun

Last saturday, the Malaysian Cake Decorators' Club held its fourth meeting. One of its members, Margaret, hosted the meet.

As usual, there were lots of food. Margaret was a wonderful host. She made sure all of us were comfortable. Her jackfruit pudding was so yummy. So was the door gift. I am not sure what it's called but it was sure tasty.

It was good to see more new faces at the meet. The ladies exchanged views, news, ideas and most of all got to know each other.

I was invited to do a demo on how to do a pull apart cake and buttercream transfer. Thank you, Jo and MCDC for giving me the opportunity to do so.

It was a good get together. I am really looking forward to the next meet as it would also coincide with MCDC's first anniversary.

MCDC 3rd get together

The Malaysian Cake Decorator's Club (MCDC) had its 3rd meeting on Saturday. It was hosted by one of its member's, Ambika.

There were lots of food. The vegetarian spread was delicious. Yummmy!!!! Loved the carrot dessert.

There were a few activities lined up on the agenda. We learned three types of breathing techniques; two of them would help you sleep well (this is one of the many benefits) and one to keep you going thru out the day feeling energetic. Thanks Ambika for those useful exercises.

Next, a figurine demo by Min of Mama Min. She is really a cake master. Learned a few tips on figure moulding. It's not as difficult as I thought! The mermaid and her companion looked really cute.
It was a fun gathering. Ladies exchanging ideas and laughter. We were able to put faces to some of the names on the forum. :)

A token of appreciation was given to the host by MCDC's founder Jo.

Finally, there was a pleasant surprise for all of us from Ambika. She presented all of us with a handy personalised timer. Thank you, Ambika, for being such a gracious host.

MCDC get together

Last saturday, I attended the second Malaysian Cake Decorators' Club (MCDC) meet. It was my first. Cake Connection was kind enough to lend their space for the get together.

It was really fun. There were 20 of us and all of us brought food, it was a good spread. Yum. I finally could put a face to some of the names in the forum.

Jo gave us a demo on how to make marzipan and a Chinese New Year cake. Tepee from Tpcal Cake gave us a talk on photography. Very informative. Thank you Jo and Tepee.

My camera ran out of battery just before Jo finished decorating the Chinese New Year cake. So the picture of the end product is courtesy of Tepee.

We had a surprise from one of the ladies, Nayat. She brought a gift for the lucky draw. Nancy of Cake Connection was asked to pick the lucky winner. Guess who was the lucky gal? Me!

Everyone was eager to know what the gift was. I had a pleasant surprise when I ripped it open. It was Debbie Brown's latest book, Dream Wedding Cakes. This book has been on my wish list for some time now. Now I can strike that out. :)
Thanks Najat, really appreciate it.

All in all, I had a great time learning and chatting with the ladies. Looking forward to the next meet on March 7.
