Happy Chinese New Year

I have been busy lately and have not had the time to update my blog. I will do it soon. Before I get carried away with other stuff, I want to take this opportunity to wish everyone a 'Gong Xi Fatt Cai'. Also have a good long weekend!

MCDC get together

Last saturday, I attended the second Malaysian Cake Decorators' Club (MCDC) meet. It was my first. Cake Connection was kind enough to lend their space for the get together.

It was really fun. There were 20 of us and all of us brought food, it was a good spread. Yum. I finally could put a face to some of the names in the forum.

Jo gave us a demo on how to make marzipan and a Chinese New Year cake. Tepee from Tpcal Cake gave us a talk on photography. Very informative. Thank you Jo and Tepee.

My camera ran out of battery just before Jo finished decorating the Chinese New Year cake. So the picture of the end product is courtesy of Tepee.

We had a surprise from one of the ladies, Nayat. She brought a gift for the lucky draw. Nancy of Cake Connection was asked to pick the lucky winner. Guess who was the lucky gal? Me!

Everyone was eager to know what the gift was. I had a pleasant surprise when I ripped it open. It was Debbie Brown's latest book, Dream Wedding Cakes. This book has been on my wish list for some time now. Now I can strike that out. :)
Thanks Najat, really appreciate it.

All in all, I had a great time learning and chatting with the ladies. Looking forward to the next meet on March 7.

For the bargain hunter

Just want to show of some of the flower cutters I bought at Bake with Yen. They carry the daisy, blossom, gerberra daisy, snow flakes and autumn leaves cutters. I didn't get the blossom cutters as I already have some of those.

Each set had about minimum 3 cutters of different sizes. They were reasonably priced, RM9.50-12.50. A good buy!

BWY also had the non stick rolling pins with the big one starting at RM17.50. They had the fondant figure moulding tools as well.

Was tempted to buy them but had to stop myself. That was really difficult. I already have the rolling pins of a different type and the moulding tools, but then again, a bargain is a bargain.

Had to remind myself so many times why I shouldn't get them. No harm in having extras, right? But the biggest problem I have is storage. Sigh!!!

These fondant tools are great if you are just starting out and don't want to spend a bomb on these items.

First baking for 2009

Did my first baking for 2009. It was for a 55 birthday. The client wanted a sugee cake. Baked two 10x10 cakes and joined them together.
