We are on Twitter

Party with Cakes has jumped on the Twitter bandwagon. Yes, you can now get our updates on this social networking and micro-blogging service.

After being asked numerous times whether Party with Cakes is on Twitter, I decided to get an account.

The credit should go to my dear friend, Robert, who literally created an account for me. Thanks, Robert!

A train and a vampire

Remember Thomas and friends? This is Thomas, the blue tank engine, who works at a big station on the Island of Sodor, shunting coaches to their proper places.

I have always wanted to make Thomas and finally get a chance to do so. :)

This cake was made for Ariq, a three-year-old, who celebrated his birthday on Saturday together with his sister Arissa.

Arissa, turned 11, is a Twilight fan. She loves Bella and Edward. This is a pull apart cake, made of 40 chocolate cupcakes.

Twilight is about a teenager named Bella Swan who moves to Forks, Washington and finds her life radically changed when she falls in love with a vampire named Edward Cullen.

Famous pop singer

Made this cake for a Hannah Montana fan who turned eight yesterday.

I am sure most parents with kids and those of you who watch the Disney channel will know who Hannah Montana is. But for those who don't, it is about a girl who leads a double life.

An average teenage school girl named Miley Stewart by day and a famous pop singer named Hannah Montanna by night. Her secret life/identity is only known to her close friends and family.

Sleeping beauty in pink

This is a pull apart cake made of 24 cupcakes. Two flavours: chocolate and banana. The four-year-old birthday gal loves Princess Aurora and the colour pink.

According to her aunt, the little gal insisted only on eating sleeping beauty's dress because it was in her favourite colour. Yes, you guessed it right! Pink.

Last minute entry

These are dummy mini cakes which I submitted for a contest organised by the Malaysian Cake Decorator's forum last month.

I was planning to do some research on the design but that did not happen as I was busy with work and cakes. I nearly gave up the idea of submitting this project.

But as the closing date drew closer, I was getting restless thinking about not being able to take part in the contest. Somehow, just few hours before the closing time, I managed to put something together with leftover fondant and here is how it turned out.

I did not win anything but have the satisfaction of entering my first cake contest!

Finally ...

This was my graduation cake for the Wilton 1 course which I attended many many moons ago. My camera ran out of juice on that day. Luckily, a friend of mine, who was also attending the course came to my rescue.

Unfortunately, she misplaced the photos and she finally found it two weeks ago. Better late than never, I guess. Thanks, Lucy!

Planet Cake

I finally got my hands on Planet Cake. It's a gift from my friend who just came back from Australia. An earlier birthday present.

Planet Cake is owned by Paris & Billy Cutler and is based in Sydney. Planet Cake creates fabulous cakes for celebrations of all types. They are well-known for their Wonky/MadHatter cakes. One of the things to do on my wish list is to attend classes at Planet Cake.

At the moment for me, the next best thing to Planet Cake is their book. Unfortunately, they did not include their famous cake in this book. But I am not complaining.

And this is one book you will not be able to get off my hands. :)

Welcome back, friend

I made some cup cakes for a friend who came back from Australia for holidays. Since I just finished the MU cake and had some leftover green icing, I decided to make some vacation themed cupcakes.

It was very late when I started decorating the cakes and I only got as far as a pair of flip flops when my body and mind started shutting down. So sprinkles came to my rescue and this is how they turned out.

Manchester United cupcakes

Here's an MU pull apart cake. This is a gift from a gal to her boyfriend who was celebrating his 25th birthday over the weekend.

MCDC's 1st anniversary

Last Saturday, the Malaysian Cake Decorator's Club celebrated it's 1st anniversary. It was an event all members had been waiting for anxiously.

There was a huge turnout. There were lots of activities and, of course, plenty of food. The main hightlight was the prize giving ceremony for the Miniature Wedding Cake Decorating contest. I must say all entries submitted were very beautiful and creative. There were three main prize winners and seven consolation prizes.

Here are some of the winning entries. The castle cake won first prize. All creations you see here are copyrights of the respective winners.

These winners were not able to be present during the prize giving ceremony:

The other attraction was the garage sale. I went early so that I can get my hands on some of the goodies but my early was not early enough. There were others who beat me to it. Nevertheless, I managed to get my hands on some magazines and cake tins. :)

All in all, it was a good event. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the founder, Joanne Fam, and the moderators, Najat, Ambika and Ina for making this a memorable event.
