It's a hot pot

Over the weekend, I also had a request to make a steamboat cake. Since I had never made such a cake, I was up for the challenge.

Made two cakes; the bottom cake as the stove and the top cake as the steamboat. All went as planned and I finished decorating the cake around midnight on Sunday.

As some of you know, I hate taking pictures at night especially in my kitchen. But my gut feeling told me to take a snapshot of the cake before putting it into the box and I followed my instincts.

Ten minutes after putting it into the box, disaster struck! The top portion of the cake started cracking. I think the prawns and the fish balls were just too heavy for the cake.

Now for plan B ... The cake is not going to survive the night. Quickly using two spatulas, I scoped the top cake. Luckily, the bottom cake was not damaged. Here's the damaged cake:

In times of desperation, you will be surprised how ideas spring to mind. I did the second best and possible way to make the cake look like a steamboat and here is the result:

I told my friend what had happened and she was ok about. In fact, she and her colleagues loved the cake.

I was still upset, no doubt. But now on hindsight, I think plan B looked better than the original plan.

We are the Champions!

Last weekend was a busy one for me. My son took part in a two-day taekwondo tournament. He participated in two events; team and individual. He won gold for both events. Way to go, darling!

His coach asked me to bake a cake to celebrate the club's win on the second day. BTW, Jagoh is the name of the club. How apt a name for a club of champs!

The cake was gone in less than five minutes. Here you see the kids going for seconds:

Overall, Jagoh won second prize. They won a trophy and a cheque worth RM5,ooo. Congratulations. You are on the right track, Jagoh!

Inspirasi TV3

This cake was made for TV3's 25th anniversary concert on Saturday. It was a chocolate cake.

It was not meant to be

What a weekend! What an experience making this cake! This is a cake that was not meant to be.

All I can say is that it was one exhausting project and an experience I will never forget. The cake was a lemon butter cake with lemon curd filling.

Keep it simple

This is a sugee cake for a guy who celebrated his 55th birthday recently.

I wanted to do something different but the request was to keep it simple as the birthday boy is a simple person. The feedback .... everyone loved the cake. :)

Flying high!

Today is my brother's birthday. I made an aeroplane cake for him as he loves planes and is in the aviation industry. The cake is a butter cake with chocolate filling.

He was very happy with the cake. Glad he liked it. :)

Since I decorated the cake last night, the wings were not completely dry. And they could not stand on their own. That's why I needed to put them on mini stilts (as seen below) for support.

Crispy, chewy, chocolatey cookies

During school holidays, I usually will sign up my kids for baking classes. This time, we decided to do some baking together at home.

We decided to bake chocolate chip cookies for tea.

As usual, all three of my kids wanted to do everything... from sieving the flour to tasting the dough. Two eggs were used, so each one had the chance to crack open one. Three of them and two eggs and each cracked open one. That doesn't add up, does it?

Well, within the first 10mins of the process, my second gal got upset with her brother and left. So it was the two of them. These cookies are simple to make and time taken is less than 20 minutes.

When it was time to scoop the dough onto the baking tray, the two of them lost interest and off they went to play badminton ... abandoning me to finish up the cookies.

I must say that the dough itself was tasty and the cookies turned out very crispy and chewy and chocolatey. Yummmm!

Brush your teeth

The birthday boy's colleagues wanted a cake that looked like a toothbrush. No prizes for guessing why a toothbrush cake. His name is Jordan. Remember, Jordan toothbrush?

You see Doraemon on the cake as the birthday boy is a fan of the blue robotic cat.

This is a plain butter cake with butter icing.
